when will eBay have a rival online auction company?

There are many ways for ebay to be better, but they are pretty resistant to change...doesnt that spell "competitor" sometime in the near future? If someone like Donald Trump or Mark Cuban got behind the idea of a new online auction site, and threw an insane amount of money into advertising, wouldnt people sign up..? One of the biggest ways ebay could make more money for themselves and the seller, is to extend an auction 5-10 minutes if there is a bid made on the auction with less than 10 minutes to go. Everyone has been outbid at the last second on an auction before. It happens to me on almost everything I ever bid on anything...but if the auction extended 5-10 minutes when someone bids in the last 10 minutes, it would give you time to login and make a higher bid..and then it would allow the other bidder time to make a higher bid. Higher bids equal more money to the seller and ebay..but they refuse to do that. I'm not asking for addresses of smaller auction sites..the question is when will ebay have a rival company steal their thunder? extending the auction..why not extend the auction?..if you have ever been to a real auction, you will know that an auction doesnt close at a certain time..it closes when people stop bidding. The seller could have the choice to let the auction be extended or just close at a certain time.

  1. Check out UBid -- and why extend an auction?? Just bid what you are willing to pay for it and be done with it. You either win or you don't. I see too many people paying more for something off of ebay than can be bought at the store. Ebay needs to do something about their ridiculous fees, because I know I don't want to sell anything on ebay anymore unless I am desperate.
  2. Check out Craig's List.
  3. Try http://www.onlineauctionexchange.com they extend there auctions if a sniper detected. And with No Listing Fees, No Commission or End-of-Auction Fees I think they could be a good competitor for ebay in the future. Plus they give you $1000 of auction credit just for signing up ... this could be a nice way to start out with a new site. Use this credit toward auctions or to open up your own online store. You have nothing to loose ... Nice website ... a must see.
  4. Ebay already has many competitors, just not one big one. I find much better deals off ebay on sites like Plunderhere.com, BidVille.com and Ecrater.com. Only normal, it's because I'm only paying the sellers and not putting my money into ebays greedy hands [fees, fees & more fees].
