Cascading Style Sheets?

I have for awhile wanted to use Cascading Style Sheets instead of tables. Is there some descent "FREE" software out there that isn't to hard to use? I have been using homesite 3.0 now for like 10 years. I would like to update my website. HELP!!!

  1. Notepad.
  2. Please be reminded that Cascading Style Sheets is not appropriate when attempting to conform a current webpage to be viewed by older web browsers. That's the main reason we do not recommend using Cascading Style Sheets since there are number of Net users still operating on Netscape 2.0 and 3.0. Good luck!
  3. You should definitely jump into using CSS. It will give you a lot more control and freedom when styling and updating your pages. With that said, when using CSS you should know how to code it over using a program. Knowing how it works can save some time when styles might conflict with another. I would recommend finding a website(s) that have tutorials for beginners or pickup a good CSS book. As for programs, I use Adobe Dreamweaver. It is probably one of the most desired applications for design and programming combined. Unfortunately, it is expensive. There are some cheaper/free applications out there. I would recommend finding one with code markup coloring and design/code view. One open source application I've found is called Nvu.
  4. I use Kate or Vim for editing. (sorry, but as far as I know that's linux only) Though Vim I think has a version for windows. Yes, they do. http://www.vim.org/download.php#pc very good editor. some common features it supports: syntax highlighting, bracket-matching, and indentation. if you don't want to use terminal you can use gvim.
