How come i cannot see any HTML signs or codes on pages?

I have recently restored my computer to its factory state and i did believe i have downloaded everything up to date; but for some reason i cannot see any html codes or signs. for example i cannot see my star html codes on my myspace or those hearts ladies have. does anyone know how to solve this problem? Thank you.
